Dear Loon Lakers,

There will be a free VLMP-lead, aquatic plant ID workshop on Thursday, Aug 8 on Cupsuptic Lake from  8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. (meet at the new pavilion at the Cupsuptic Campground). This is an on-the-lake instruction/practice session for those who would like to learn more about an invasive aquatic plant survey.  (No commitment is required but it would be terrific to have some more volunteer plant patrollers on Loon Lake!)

This workshop will be taught by personnel from the VLMP/MCIAP (Maine Volunteer Lake Monitoring Program/Maine Center for Invasive Aquatic Plants), and it's an excellent, hands-on opportunity to learn about some of the aquatic plants found growing in the Rangeley Lakes area.  You will need to take your own canoe or kayak as well as sunscreen and water.

Participation is limited to 30 people.  To register, please contact  VLMP at vlmp@mainevlmp.org. Give them your name, phone number and indicate that you'd like to participate in the Aug. 8 workshop on Cupsuptic Lake and that you're from Loon Lake.

Wouldn't you like to know what those plants are growing in the water off your dock? Wouldn't you like to know that none of those plants is invasive?!  So far, as of 2012, we do not have any invasives on Loon Lake but that could change, and change our Loon Lake experience forever, if an invasive aquatic plant took hold here and no one recognized it.

Please consider participating in this workshop!
