We had great success with the loon rafting nest this year, in spite of the fact that a damaging storm tore a hole in the camo netting and broke one of the supporting dowels. The loons successfully hatched two chicks, but, sadly, a second ferocious storm, just a few days after the hatching date (July 6) may have cost the life of one of the chicks. The parents are busy chasing other loons off the lake and tending to the remaining little one. They’re still staying close to their natal cove, but will be moving further into the lake within a week or so. Please give them a lot of room at this sensitive time.
