No Loon Chicks?

Hmmm... no loon chicks have been seen this year.  Could it be the bald eagles we've seen cruising Loon Lake the past few weeks?  Or the aforementioned snapping turtle?  Or the very high water levels this year?
Our birding friend thinks the rainy spring and high water levels are the most likely reasons for having no chicks.

Update:  Alden Young thinks he saw an eagle pluck the baby loon off its nest one early morning.  The parents were both feeding, noticed the eagle overhead, and were speeding back towards the nest.  Alas, they did not make it back in time.
